For bright, motivated young women, Salem Academy is more than a school—it’s the beginning of possible. Since 1772, Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has focused solely on educating young women. Our Moravian founders believed that a first-class education could make a profound impact on a young woman’s life, and that belief lives on today as a hallmark of a Salem Academy education. Small class settings, college-level facilities, and a blend of classic and modern teaching methods give students the tools to master every subject. Our liberal arts and sciences curriculum challenges and inspires, building the foundation students need to excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities. Salem’s faculty serves an important role in students’ lives. As mentors, champions, and advisors, they ignite brilliance and help students to find and follow their unique talents and passions. While a Salem education is elite, our culture is not elitist. We’ve created a caring community where young women are encouraged to embark on their own intellectual, spiritual, and social journeys. As an all-girls school, Salem gives each student the freedom to mature at her own pace and explore new interests in a supportive environment. The triumphant Salem graduate emerges ready for the future, equipped with the skills and confidence to succeed in anything she pursues.

Life at Salem Academy is full of special activities for students—the hard part is choosing what to do. Known as the City of the Arts, Winston-Salem is a vibrant, culturally rich community, with many opportunities that are in walking distance of our campus. Fellowship Council plans school activities for both boarding and day students, which include things like dances with boys’ schools, camping trips, and day trips to nearby cities. Students often visit Wake Forest University for special events, such as athletic games or lectures. Cultural events abound—whether it’s the opera, the symphony, or an international film festival, there’s no shortage of opportunity. Shopping trips to Target, Thruway Center, and Hanes Mall are built into each week. Students are welcome to make their own plans, too. It’s a short walk to Old Salem for a snack at Winkler Bakery and a stroll on the greenway!
